Last month I went to see Greg Brunkalla speak at the Apple store in Soho (NYC.) He talked about the (above) project which involved a hand made/painted zoetrope. He said that the trend for fashion companies is to step away from doing runways and move toward more distinctive/engaging ways of showcasing their new lines. Temperley's spring line happened to be circus themed, so the concept was to have models performing circus acts in the season's clothes played on a zoetrope in public. The individual stills (from the sequences) were used in Temperley's advertising. Apparently, motion graphics have gotten so fine in quality that hi res stills can be used at large sizes as would a normal photo. He also mentioned that most of today's "live action" music videos are done for free.

Our product is so "you"

As boomers get older, there seems to be a push to make "generation y" the new "ME generation."

Thanks guys. Without all your products, I wouldn't know how to express myself. I might have to turn to things other than mayo for my rebellion.

I'm not into latex or anything but

Have you noticed the appearance of latex in more and more live-action renditions of comic books? Well, it's not such a big leap. A lot of latex designers (past and present) seem to have been influenced by characters' costumes. I find not only this interesting, but also the kind of clothes they are now able to make now (scroll below.) For those who might not know, latex is a "no-sew" fabric. Pieces are just glued together. It is pretty cool to see some of the intricate (usually sewn) pieces designers are now making. The next few pictures (+plus links) are some of the least disturbing (sexually or otherwise) photos of costume-influenced or complicated (the way it's made) latex clothing I have found online.

I could never get over how uncomfortable the stuff is though.

This last one looks like it was influenced by "The Spirit."

Inkjet printable fabric!

I may be a little late on this but, did you know that there are several companies out there selling fabric you can print on?  I posted a picture of C. Jenkins Miracle Fabric Sheets because it was one of the few printable cotton sheet products that I found, that had examples of use over the web (see a little lower) and were also washable after printing.

Here are two pictures I found of Miracle Fabric used on the Craft Chi blog.

A customized table cloth and

a pillow.

The only thing I can see there being a problem with is COLOR.  If you've ever tried printing a colored image from an inkjet printer on matte paper, you know exactly what I'm talking about.  Inkjets work best with semi-gloss to glossy paper and anything else just looks flat and dull.  So just to be on the safe side, I wouldn't print colored photographs if I were you.  Things with flat colors and contrasts would probably work best.  The possibilities are endless!

Check out the sites and blogs below for other possible uses for fabrics:

P.P. I'd like to thank Tenaria, Danny, Ian, and Janet for helping me meet 60% of my sponsorship goal for the Walk MS event happening April 19, 2009 in New York City.

Not a deep sea creature at all (updates)

Remember when I showed you this guy's cousin in a previous post?  Well, it turns out that the Axolotl is a fresh water amphibian from Mexico... still cute though.

The Lamprey

These guys are from "the deep."

More Patterns!  These two came from the ASIFA Hollywood Animation Archive site.  I'll link below.  Along with patterns it features pages and concepts fro
m Owen Jones'  The Grammar of Ornament (book.)  There are 4 posts on that blog devoted to just this subject.

Reposting

Don't give me that look!  I finally have larger images from my previous post.

Ah ha!

I have good and bad news.  The bad news is, I didn't get to go to the library this weekend.  BUT this State (New York) has many of it's hidden treasures available online for FREE.  That's "fantabulous" to me!  Here are some of my findings:

Flowers or cogs?  Girl or machine?

Let's run through the forest together in fashionable clothes!
I want to hangout with the lady in this pattern (above.)
Look at the color choice of the flowers on the right.  I would have never put those together.  They look great!
Diamond based patterns above.
These sea creatures are fun and cold at the same time.
They need to bring back patterned book covers and binding.
Look at those birds on the upper right!
How happy are these?  (above)
I like the horse in the upper right corner.  If only real horses looked like this.  Maybe I wouldn't fear them, but that's another subject.
Look at how cute these are (above.)

Click on the link below and type in a new search.   There's a half-n-half chance you'll find some cool stuff.

With how beautiful, distinctive, and inspired these old patterns and graphic images are, why do contemporary patterns look like this?

One of my hobbies is making patterns.  Maybe I'll post a couple sometime?   I bought two books over the Summer that teach more on the basis of design.  I've been meaning to try making a diamond or ogee based pattern instead of my usual square.  We'll see!
